On
Friday, August 12, 2011 Amador Martinez received National recognition
when he was honored with THE PRESIDENT'S CALL TO SERVICE AWARD.
This award was given to Amador by Marisue Eastlake who is the
RSVP Director for the City of Oxnard. ![]() Marisue Eastlake presenting certificate to Amador Martinez The
award says: Presented by the President's Council on Service and
Civic Participation to AMADOR MARTINEZ in recognition and
appreciation of your commitment to strenghtening our Nation and for
making a difference through volunteer service. Amador with some of the equipment he uses.RSVP stands for Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Over the past 18 years Amador has volunteered more than 4600 hours in City, County and State RSVP programs such as food share, meals on wheels, Ventura County Council on Aging and best known to Oxnard Lawn Bowlers, many hours of his own time working as greens keeper for our bowling club. Our green is one of the best in the West with no small thanks to Amador and the equipment both he and the City of Oxnard have acquired for use. The equipment would probably cost nearly $100,000 if it would be replaced at current costs. Some of the units are no longer sold. The picture below shows some of that equipment. Sprayers, verticutters, mowers and tractors are needed to do the work. In addition
to the certificate presented to Amador there was a letter from The
White House. The last part of the letter says: While government can
open more opportunities for us to serve our communities, it is up to
each of us to seize those opportunities. Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great Nation. Signed by the President of the United States. Photos and write up by Doug Dow |
